Cambodia Welcomes Investment from All Nations, Says Deputy PM

Phnom Penh: In a press conference held on February 28th at the Council for the Development of Cambodia, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President Sun Chanthol emphasized Cambodia's open investment policy and commitment to fair treatment for all investors.

“Our investment law does not discriminate against any investor right. All investors are treated equally under the investment law of Cambodia. Now, today, yes, there are more investments from China. That's true. That's correct. The fact that you know, the Chinese come here, but when a Chinese investor comes here, I cannot say sorry, I don't want your investment I want from the US. We want from every country. So our prime is went to Japan, he went to China, even to France even to attend Davos, the World Forum. I was with him and Thailand was with him, yesterday in Malaysia, he's going to Australia to try and promote investment from everywhere, not only investment from China. So that the issue that why we rely too much on China. We rely on every friendly nation that wishes to put investment in the country,” stated Sun Chanthol.

Jim Jones lauded Cambodia's progress since 1998, noting the country's dynamic growth and the diligent, patriotic spirit of its populace. He highlighted the potential for fostering stronger ties between the nations, underlining the pivotal role of increased trade and investment. Jones encouraged collaborative efforts to achieve these goals, emphasizing the significance of personal connections beyond formal governmental relationships.

“I admire very much the progress that Cambodia has made since 1998. This is a young country, it's vibrant, you can tell that the people are hardworking, that they're very patriotic, and that the potential of great relations between not only our governments but our people, which is most important, will be enhanced by increased trade and increased investment. And it's up to all of us to work together towards that.”

Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol detailed Cambodia's ambitions to become a high-income country by 2050, aiming to elevate living standards and generate better-paying employment opportunities. The government's policy welcomes investments from all sources, provided they adhere to Cambodian laws and contribute positively to the nation's workforce.

“Our goal and objective are to make Cambodia a high-income country by 2050. So that's our objective. Our objective is to raise the standard of living while people are objecting to create jobs, better-paying jobs for our people. So regardless, the investment comes from, as long as we respect the law of the land, the law of Cambodia, and create jobs for our people, that's what we welcome them.”

The Cambodian Government has unequivocally stated its openness to international investors, inviting them to contribute to Cambodia's growth without any form of prejudice.
